Basecamp

Spend 5 days (4 nights) away from home at one of our residential centres in an awe-inspiring location. If you're aged 10-12 years old, you'll experience at least one evening around a campfire where you'll eat under the stars and share stories with your group. If you're 13-17 years old, you'll get to experience an overnight expedition where you'll camp in the wild, either in a mountain hut, a tent or bivvying under the stars.

This could be your first wilderness experience or first time away from home on your own.

We're here to give you a supportive, but challenging and adventurous experience. Making the most of the natural environment, you'll learn to stretch yourself outside of your comfort zone by tackling a range of challenging outdoor activities.

This is a 5-day adventure like no other. Spend time in the great outdoors, make new friends and develop new skills like independence and personal responsibility. Go home a stronger, more confident version of yourself and learn the most important lesson you could ever learn: to believe in yourself.

What you'll be doing

No two Outward Bound adventures are the same. Your group's appetite for adventure will shape what you do each day.

With activities like gorge scrambling, rock climbing, cutter sailing and canoeing you'll make the most of nature's playground.

You will have a dedicated instructor the whole time. They will be there for you and offering encouragement when you need it most and help if things get tough. There will also be a dedicated house parent to look after you and your group in the evenings.

Howtown August 2019

12 year old son enjoyed his week at Howtown. His instructor Ryan was great, very encouraging and friendly. His favourite activity was cliff jumping into Ullswater as it was a nice balance of thrill and feeling safe with learning the right checks. He also really liked the teamwork involved in gorge walking

Davidson Family

Our son has the time of his life at Ullswater summer 2019. The life skills this adventure has installed in him are something we could never have done as parents. It has given him confidence to go all in without hesitation. School have noticed a positive change in his attitude and outlook since coming back to school in September. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you Outward bound team, Ullswater team especially Flora! :)
