Young people return home from Outward Bound having been impacted in a variety of different ways by their experience. Attitudes, behaviours, confidence and their approach to life all change. The young people in the videos below describe how Outward Bound has had an impact on them.

Finding a connection with the people on her course helped Lauren overcome her feelings of anxiety about meeting others and fitting in.

In her home country of Somalia Ruky felt confident and strong. Coming to England aged 14 with no English, she lost her confidence and the voice she needed to protect herself. Her Outward Bound course helped her to re-build her social confidence and succeed at school.
âMy motive was I wanted to complete this course, no matter whatâ
Jamesâ Outward Bound course provided him with time out to understand himself. He experienced what it felt like to give 110% and realised just how much he was really capable of.
âI can do things that I wasnât expected to doâ
When it came to school, Ryan,15, was lazy. Socially, he was shy and used to hide behind his phone. Outward Bound helped him realise how important it is to connect with others face-to-face, to take opportunities and work hard for results.
âFor a lot of young people, the only things they see is the area around where they liveâ
At Outward Bound, Omar, 18, experienced new environments, met new people and realised there was more to life than grades and computer games.

On her course, Lizzy developed a different mindset, one where she believed in herself and wanted to embrace new opportunities.

Stephanie, a young carer whose limits were tested during her Outward Bound course, learned what it feels like to believe in herself, to work towards something and to achieve a goal.
