In their own words
We followed the 10 women on their 10 week long course.
We hope you will enjoy watching and hearing how the course has impacted these women, and their future careers...
Outward Bound's Women’s Outdoor Leadership Course is a ten week programme, focussing on the intra-personal (self understanding), inter-personal (relationships with others) and technical (water, mountain and rock) skills needed to be a great outdoor leader.

This is part of Outward Bound’s wider journey to becoming a more diverse and inclusive organisation. We want everyone, regardless of identity or background to be able to see and feel their potential.
Having strong female instructors is an important step, showing the next generation of girls that muddy is beautiful, that you can take risks and learn from them, be brave, physically competent and show your emotions, and that you can be confident in yourself, your views and values, without being perceived as bossy or “too much.”
More broadly we are working towards creating a staff team who have a range of lived experiences, who can bring their authentic selves to work because that’s where creativity grows and teams are able to be their best, in service of all the young people who come on our courses.
This 10 week course in 2021 was only possible thanks to funding from Generation Green and Arc'teryx the high performance outdoor equipment company.
Generation Green is funded by the government’s DEFRA Green Recovery Challenge Fund. The fund is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England and the Environment Agency.
We are hugely grateful to both organisations for this support.
